Great story below on the "Senior" Veterans.  Here are some
contrasting stories that I thought you would appreciate in these
whacky times.  For some reason I feel everyone should be on
the same sheet of music but apparently this country does not
know what that means anymore; except, a large majority of our
Veterans.

The below e-mails came via friends of friends currently serving in OFI.

There is not much more that I can add to the quotes taken from the below

e-mails except to pass them on as requested; and, remember our troops and

what they are doing this Memorial Day holiday.

Hello,
Please allow me to express my VIEW!  Way too often in this country the boisterous minority is given the largest platform to present their outrageous opinions.  Case in point, Rosie O'Donnell on ABC's The View said, "Six hundred fifty-five thousand Iraqi civilians are dead.  Who are the terrorists?"  She went on to further insinuate that American soldiers are the terrorists. ABC has given her the platform to spew this type of filth for far too long.  For my own peace of mind, I can no longer sit back with passive anger.  I choose to actively engage this minority.

Four years ago, I voluntarily left my family and friends to help preserve our country's unparalleled freedoms.  I consider serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom to be one of my life's greatest privileges. I mention my service humbly, as the sacrifices during my deployment pale in comparison to that of so many of our troops and their families.  My desire is only to add first hand credibility to the character of our soldiers.  As a prior infantry soldier in Iraq, I know that we take extreme measures to protect innocent Iraqi lives.  For anyone to contradict this does a great disservice to those young men and women putting their lives in unimaginable danger on a daily basis.  As well, I promise you that American soldiers have more compassion for the suffering of the Iraqi people than Rosie O'Donnell could ever fathom.  I doubt that Rosie has ever listened to an 11 year old Iraqi boy tell how he is left to care for his family because Saddam's regime murdered his father and older brother.  Why then is she given a daily platform to speak on topics she has little to no knowledge about?  Shame on ABC!

Along with freedom of speech comes our freedom to choose whom we allow to speak in our homes. That is why, as of today, ABC programming has been removed from my family's television guide.  We are fine with giving up some of our favorite programming (even settling for listening to the Buckeyes football team on the radio next fall - ouch!).  However, we are not o.k. with continuing to give the
minority the loudest voice. May God Bless America!

Sincerely,
Eric Leininger

P.S. Please forward my message to everyone you know!

Subject: response to "support our troops"
Date: Thu, 24 May 2007 11:40:40 -0700 (PDT)

I’m writing this letter in response to a letter my
friend sent out on the comments made by Rosie
O’Donnell. His letter got a response from a senior
writer at eWeek on the west coast. He said that his
letter was misguided and needed some perspective

andhe of course felt that he was a professional on the
matter of the war and what Rosie O’Donnell had said.

I have watched these so called professionals on the

war voice their opinions on an immediate withdrawal

of troops from Iraq.

My question is how many of them have been there to

see what is going on? It’s a little too easy to sit in your

nice soft office or cubicle and call us the terrorists. I say

“us” because unless they plan on moving to another country,

they are Americans also and they have a voice to protest

what’s going on. Before you go flapping your jaws though

remember this. “Get your facts straight”. That’s what my

friend was told about his letter.

You want to speak out on how immoral the war is, but

how many of you have actually been there? How many

of you have stood in an Iraqi town and received praise

from kids and adults for finally freeing them? Have you

been hugged by a teenager that is grossly deformed from

a grenade that was tossed into his uncle’s store by Iraqi

soldiers because his uncle spoke out against his government?

Here’s my perspective for all you media types that
like to run your mouths about how terrible your
government is. I apologize ahead of time because I’m
not as soft as most Americans. You talk about how much
of a disaster the war has been up to this point and
want to tuck your tail and run. I have the perfect
solution for your problem. We need to let the brave
men and women of the U.S. Military do what we have
been trained to do. I believe that the media
unknowingly ties our hand behind our backs. Which in
turn ends up costing more and more lives.

You sit back and protest and show mostly the negative

aspects of the war before realizing how much of a negative

impact one-sided media has. I feel everybody deserves the
freedom of speech and should express their opinions.
Maybe people should educate themselves on both sides
first. I admit that I don’t watch very much tv, but I
have yet to see somebody like Rosie O’Donnell have a
debate with someone like myself that has actually been
there.

Are you all afraid of being shown a different view of things?

I would be more than happy to sit down with any of you and

discuss our different views. Or does the thought of finally

having your facts straight scare you?

 Sincerely,
 Phil Mooney

My mailbox is flooded with mail concerning gas prices and illegal immigrants. To boycott oil companies or not; to provide amnesty to illegal immigrants or not, etc. Since I have become jaded to the various solutions proposed by Republicans, Democrats, Sierra Club, ACLU, etc., I have elected to solve the problems as they effect me. It solves both my gas and illegal immigrant problems. I have hired illegal immigrants to push my car. They're plentiful and cheaper than buying gas. Then I pay them in pesos so they have to go home to spend it. I love it when a plan comes together

Subject: In Tribute To Those Who Serve

My Dearest Brothers and Sisters, I have been asked many times what Memorial Day means to me. I, for some reason, always have trouble answering that question. This was sent to me this morning, it says it better than I ever could. I have spent the last few days remembering. Remembering my combat brothers who I served with in Vietnam. Remembering those whose names are now on a black granite wall in Washington, DC. Remembering all the young men who went to war like their fathers before them, only to return walking or being carried by others to a nation and its government who spat on their service and sacrifice.

I have cried many tears over the last few days, and prayed many prayers that this time it will be different. That the brave young men and women will be honored for their service and sacrifice. Not just on a three day weekend that comes once a year, but EVERYDAY for the rest of their lives.

God Bless Our Military

God Bless Our Country

God Bless You All

  With The Old Grunts

Being a Combat Photographer meant I traveled around the war, working with
different units at different times.  Some of the men still remember me, the

crazy guy with cameras crawling around during a hot firefight.   So over
the years, I have been invited to attend several veterans' reunions. Since
I hold the grunts, those dirty, tired, war-weary young men of so long ago,
in highest esteem, I am deeply honored to be accepted as a guest among
them.

You might wonder who comes to these affairs, what they do, what they talk
about.  You see stockbrokers, company presidents, former police chiefs,
restaurant owners, teachers, and others who used their GI Bill benefits to
continue their educations.   You see factory workers, carpenters, farmers,
mechanics, etc, who didn't continue in school but were labor's backbone,
men with wives of 35 years, men on their third divorce, men in good health,

men crippled by age and the lasting effects of major wounds. But each
carries some level of mental/emotional baggage. Some have high VA
disability ratings, others won't go to the VA at all.

When they get together the atmosphere of comradeship rolls in like a warm
mist. They smile, shake hands firmly and long, slap backs hard, often
embrace.  They sit and talk about kids, grandkids, retirement, ailments,
vacations.   And about who has passed on since last time, and who couldn't
make it this year.  Eventually they talk about the young Vietnamese girl
who warned them of the ambush waiting for them, or the time a different
ambush took out their best friend, or when the big helicopter's rotor blast

knocked over the nearby outhouse and they barely escaped the cloud of
unimaginable filth that it blew over the area.   Sometimes talk will turn
to those they remember the clearest, and miss the most, followed by a
little silence.  But there is also happy reminiscing of the joys of canned
peaches over C-ration pound cake, of showers and clean socks after weeks in
the field, of the R&R tour they took.

Sometimes politics will come up.  They are mostly conservative, and very
disappointed and upset that what they see as the lessons of Viet Nam were
not learned by our elected leaders, who have led us into another terribly
messy conflict in Iraq.   They all agree that those fighting today deserve
the best equipment, the best leadership, and not to be hampered by the
incredible burden of political considerations that restrict so much of
their actions and put their every decision under microscopes far from the
awful reality of war.   They have little good to say about the media,
either from their own war or the war today.  A few say we should get out
and let things go to hell, most think it has to be fought to a victory or
their grandchildren will be fighting jihadists decades from now.

One young woman told me that she loved to come to reunions, because it was
the only time she ever saw her father so much at ease, the only time most
of the lines on his face would disappear as he laughed and smiled with his
friends.   I explained that for most combat veterans, they are never really

the same again. There is a major part of their lives they cannot really
express or share properly, even with their families.  There is a loneliness

in their lives they can only escape when they are with others who share
their war experience.   That is the one time they can really relax, fearing

no judgment, no misunderstanding from others, and feeling the comfort of
being among brothers.  That's why some come thousands of miles to be there,

why those of lesser wealth will still save up all year for the trip, and
all consider it time and money very well spent.

There are always some ceremonies, pledging allegiance to the flag, singing
songs such as National Anthem or the Marine Hymn.  Old spines stand
straight, old voices may be hoarse and off-key, but they are not faint.
They know the price of service to their nation, they remember the
sacrifices of their absent friends, and they experience liberty in a way
most people cannot.  I wish more of us could feel those feelings, and have
the clarity of understanding of what we have and what it cost.

Memorial Day would mean so much more if everyone could understand what
lives in the hearts of our combat veterans

I just think that we all should know some background of the person that we elect for the  president of the United States of America.   Please read, then make up your own mind who to vote for.   Thank you,
Who is Barack Obama?
Probable  U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu ,  Hawaii , to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black Muslim from Nyangoma-Kogel ,  Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white atheist from Wichita , Kansas .
Obama's  parents met at the University of Hawaii  .
When  Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father Returned to Kenya .
His  mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a radical Muslim From Indonesia.
When  Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia .
Obama  attended a Muslim school in Jakarta .
He  also spent two years in a Catholic  school.
Obama  takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.
He   Is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended  Catholic school."
Obama's  political handlers are attempting to make it appear that Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best.
In  reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya Soon after the divorce, and never  again had any direct influence over His son's education.
Lolo  Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his  stepson to Islam.
Obama  was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta . Wahabism is the radical teaching  that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the  western world.
Since  it is politically expedient to be a Christian when seeking Major public  office in the United States , Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church  of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background.
Let  us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy.
Please  forward to everyone you know. The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the  US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level.

Folks:
The below message explains it all regarding our staunchest ally in the GWOT. Let's try and help our British coalition partners by letting them know we greatly appreciate their sacrifices and standing shoulder-to-shoulder next to us in Iraq. Even something as special as a card will help make their day.

To Operation AC Supporters:

Please read it and don't delete.  I know, I've sent enough emails out to you this week.  This one is short and sweet.  Here is the deal, the troops serving in Iraq from the UK have NOT ever since 2003, EVER gotten ANY letters or care packages from other than their family.  The UK Military does not have a military postal system like ours.  So me having a big mouth and reading Mike Yon's dispatch about the British Troops, I decided to ask the people at ASY to help and they did.

I have 2 addresses here.  1 is for the UK Troops serving in Baghdad and the other (the majority of the UK troops) who are in Basra.

I thought it might be nice for we Americans to support the 5,000 plus UK troops since they don't get any support from their own country (I will work on that method as well today, we are offering Operation AC as the go between for those in the UK who want to send stuff, they send to us and we sent to the UK troops).   So, get out some paper and pen and write them a thank you note from the Yanks who appreciate their support.  If you feel so inclined, send them a care package.  I will have a method up in the next few days so we can start sending them boots.   However, if you write to them and they write back to you, we will get them what they need.  I bet they could use some boots judging by the photos of the guy in 5 platoon I see on Mike Yon's blog.  He has on those hot black combat boots (paratrooper boots).

We need to show more sympathy for these people.  They travel miles in the heat, they risk their lives crossing a border, they don't get paid enough wages, they do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do, they live in crowded conditions among a people who speak a different language, they rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day every day. I'm not talking about illegal Mexicans, I'm talking about our troops. Doesn't it seem strange that the Democrats are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegals, but don't support  our troops and are now threatening to defund them? Please pass this on.  This is worth the short time it takes to read it.

 Never Forget

Submitted by an IL Eagle

I walked among the falling snowflakes today and met a soldier at Valley Forge. He held his musket in his bloody hands; he stood barefoot in the snow, starved from a lack of food, wounded from months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his family-surrounded by nothing but death, carnage, and war.

He stood tough before me, with a bright fire in his eyes and the air of victory on his breath. He looked angered and disgusted as he said these words to me,

  • I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your children graduate too illiterate to read it.
  • I fought in the snow, barefoot, to give you the freedom to vote; yet you stay home if it rains.
  • I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech; yet you remain silent on crucial issues because it might be bad for business.
  • I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you; yet it has stolen democracy from the people.
  • How easily you forget! It is the soldier not the reporter who gives you freedom of the press.
  • It is the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.
  • It is the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.
  • It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, and whose coffin is draped with the flag that allows the protestor to burn the flag!!
  • How easily you forget! The names of those who stood beside me, who have come after me, who are coming to me now.
  • It is the soldier, who in his duty and honor, gives you the freedom to be free!

He glared at me for a moment or two, while his breath hastened to ease; A single tear slid down my cheek and his heart began to bleed. I walked slowly up to him and placed my hand upon his wound. His blood drenched my skin and  I shook with tears and guilt while quietly he whispered, “Never forget!”

I raised my head and whispered back, “I never will!” …to the headstone on the grave that read, “Here a soldier died so you could live.”

GOE proudly salutes the men and women who have so valiantly fought to protect our country and our freedoms. To those who have served and are serving, we will never forget.
