Two heavy hitters return to write for The Press, Jimmy Wood and Matt Youngfrau The Press proudly welcomes
veteran reporters Jim Wood & Matt Youngfrau to their staff. Mr. Wood who had been the managing editor for several years
is once again writing about local news and events for The Press. Jim’s savvy style of reporting and his eagerness to
work to help the community by bringing the news from places like Ellenville Central School, Rondout Valley Schools and the
business districts we serve in Ulster County is coming back with a renewed vigor. Mr. Wood a life long resident and US Army
veteran brings much to the table and will tackle the Ulster County side of news and happenings. Youngfrau, formerly of the Sullivan County Democrat, returns to reporting after a three-year
absence will handle the Sullivan end of our coverage area. “I missed it,” Youngfrau reflected. “With the
Press, I have an opportunity to do what I love once again.” Basically stating his feelings on my rejoining the fold
at The Press. Mr. Wood also talked about his excitement
in getting back to covering events at home and once again writing for The Press. Jim told us he plans on tackling the schools
in Ellenville, Rondout and doing articles on the children which is one of his favorite themes he likes to write about including
as much sports coverage as he can get. Many of you may remember Jimmy for bringing out the story of Jason Miller who passed
but not before Jim told us of who Jason Miller was and we all learned about that beautiful young man.The Press is printed out of Ellenville and has been in existence since 1870. The paper
is published every Friday. While we do cover western Ulster County, The Press is looking to expand more into eastern Sullivan
County and has been bringing its news to you. The Press has been named one of the official newspapers of the Town of Fallsburg
and also continues to be a legal newspaper for the Town of Wawarsing. With Youngfrau on board, the paper looks to expand out
to Neversink, Monticello, and general Sullivan County concerns bringing the flavor of this Catskill Mountains into your living
room and offices. Youngfrau worked
for the Democrat from September 1997 until November of 2003. In that time, he covered a wide variety of subjects including
gambling, government, education, and human interest. Youngfrau earned a reputation for good, fair, unbiased reporting. It
is something he plans to bring to The Press. “Even though I have been away from reporting, I haven’t
been gone.” Youngfrau stated. “I’ve kept a close eye on things close to home. There are definitely things
happening. I want to be there to let people know about events firsthand.” Back in 2000, Youngfrau spread his wings from
the Democrat. While a freelance reporter at that paper, he also worked for The Press and Radio Station WVOS in Liberty, which,
in turn, led to a full time job at the Democrat. After Youngfrau left the Democrat, he started his own business, Youngfrau
Communications. It was a Public Relations company that handled political campaigns and other writing needs. His business met
with moderate success and in June 2004, Youngfrau took a job as an Inspector of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board.
He works at Monticello Raceway. Currently, he lives in Bradley, NY. Mr. Wood resides in Napanoch with his wife Carrie and daughter Caitlin and works full time for Napa Auto parts
and has kept his contacts and his eye on developments in the area with an interest in getting back to reporting. “We are very excited about both of these two
men coming back to The Press, “ said Michael Walkerwicz publisher of the paper. “We know their dedication to community
will serve the newspaper and the place they call home in a positive light” Walkerwicz said “This is a Homecoming
at the “Hometown Newspaper for both of these two dedicated reporters and a brand new day at The Press with a renewed
desire to bring our readership all of the news in the community we call home. We are very happy to have these two men back
at a growing newspaper we all plan on working very hard to bring you some more exciting changes in the near future.”
We at The Press will continue battling for the
little guy, the workingman the taxpayer and our troops never forgetting we live in this great country and have our freedoms
thanks to them.
